Matamoras Municipal Authority – Garbage Service Information

Garbage collection for the entire borough will take place on Wednesdays.

Effective April 1, 2025 the cost of collecting household garbage will be $29.00 per month for the primary can and $19 per month for additional cans per dwelling. One time garbage bag for additional pick up would be $10 per bag.  

RECYCELING cans are available directly through Casella for a monthly fee of $15 please contact Casella directly at (844) 675-0580 and select the "Lake Ariel" prompt.  

There are smaller cans available for residence who find it difficult to handle the large can (prices will be unchanged).

Recently, the Matamoras Borough Council transferred responsibility for garbage collection to the Matamoras Municipal Authority.  

The Matamoras Municipal Authority has negotiated a contract with Casella Waste in order to provide you with the lowest cost garbage collection available.  

Our garbage pickup service is voluntary.  If you have alternate plans and do not wish to use our service, just complete the attached “opt-out” form and return it to our office at 304 Pennsylvania Avenue in Matamoras.
